  2. Architecture
    Doric:
The Doric order is the oldest and most simple order. The columns have no base and the columns have a very simple capital. In other words Doric buildings were the least decorated. Archaeologists believe that Doric architectural buildings which were the in stone evolved from wooden buildings that were very similar.

    Ionic:
The Ionic order is more decorative than the Doric. The columns are taller and thinner and the capitals at the top of the columns are decorated with scrolls and other patterns. The bases of the columns are also decorated.

    Corinthian:
The Corinthian order is a lot like the Ionic order but the capitals are even more elaborately decorated usually with leaves and floral patterns

  3. Doric order

Doric order was one of the 3 orders of architecture in Ancient Greece;the other two orders were Corinthian order and Ionic order. The order was named after the style of columns used in buildings. In Doric temples the columns have no base, but just sit right on the floor. At the top of the columns, there's a capital made of a sort of small pillow in stone, and then a square block under the architrave.

    Ionic order

Ionic Order is one of the 3 main styles of Ancient Greek architecture. The Ionic capital is known for its use of volutes( a scroll like ornament). The Ionic columns normally stand on a base which seperates the shaft of the column from the stylobate ( a contuinuous base supporting a row of columns) or platform.

    Corinthian order

The Corinthian order is the most decorated out of the three orders. It has thin columns that have channels running vertically up the sides. The most impotant difference with the other orders is the big capital ( the top part of the column), which is decorated with leaves and scrolls.

  4. Architecture is the art of designing and creating buildings. Greek architecture is a very specific and influential type of design, which was based off of the post-and-lintel system. The post-and-lintel system is made up of columns, which are large upright posts, with a roof, or architrave, over the top. This type of architecture began with the Greeks, but has persisted throughout the ages to live on today.

    • Ionic: The Ionic order is more decorative than the Doric. The columns are taller and thinner, and the capitals at the top of the columns are decorated with scrolls and other patterns. The bases of the columns are also decorated.

    • Corinthian: The Corinthian order is a lot like the Ionic order, but the capitals are even more elaborately decorated, usually with leaves and floral patterns

  5. The Greeks were very religious and spent most of their time in building and praying in temples. In ancient Greece the most beautiful and largest buildings were these temples. The Greeks developed architectural systems. These were called Orders.

Each order had its very own style. The most eye-catching part was the top of the column which was called the CAPITAL. These styles were:

    1. Doric - A thick column which is flat on the top or capital. This style can be seen in conquered areas in Southern Italy and in mainland Greece
    2. Corinthian - This was a very detailed column as at the capital it often included leaves from a common flowering plant in the Mediterranean called acanthus and scrolls. The columns were usually thinner than the Doric style. This style or order was not really used in Greece but was more used in the Roman civilisation.
    3. Ionic - The Ionic style was the most elegant, with thin lines running vertically and at the capital it had a scroll design. This style was seen in the Greek islands and Eastern Greece.

  6. IONIC

The Ionic order is more decorative than the Doric. The columns are taller and thinner, and the capitals at the top of the columns are decorated with scrolls and other patterns. The bases of the columns are also decorated. It is called Ionic because it developed in the Ionian islands in the 6 century B.C. Roman historian. he Ionic was used for smaller buildings and interiors. Ionic temples are a little fancier and more delicate than Doric temples.

    CORINTHIAN

The Corinthian order is a lot like the Ionic order, but the capitals are even more decorated, usually with leaves and floral patterns. The third order is the Corinthian, which wasn't used much by the Greeks. It is named after the city of Corinth. The Corinthian style is fancier and heavier than the Ionic style. In Corinthian temples, the columns have a fancier base to stand on.

  9. Temples are the most common type of public buildings in ancient Greece. Temples were used to store religious statues. Temples varied in sizes and some temples were very large, but others were very small, depending on the size of the statue and also how many people wanted to visit it.

The Temple of Zeus was an ancient Greek temple in Olympia, Greece. It was dedicated to the god Zeus. The temple was built between 472 and 456 BC and was of the Doric order.
The Greeks had rules to build their buildings with precision. This included how wide and tall the columns should be. It also looked at how many columns a building needed. These rules became known as orders, and different types of orders developed, with different styles of architecture.
The Doric order is the oldest and simplest. Doric buildings were the least decorated.

The Ionic order is much more decorative than the Doric. The columns are taller and thinner. The capitals at the top of the columns and the bases are decorated with scrolls and other patterns.

The Corinthian order and the Ionic order are very similar. The capitals of the Corinthian order were designed to be shown off.

  13. A thermal conductor is conductors that lets heat travel quickly through it. For example a metal pan is a thermal conductor. A thermal insulator is an insulator that doesn't let heat in and out. For example plastic and fabrics.
