  2. Democracy

Democracy means the freedom and equality between people and they have a vote on what they want to do.

The earliest democracy was in Athens in 510BC, when democracy was successful in Athens many other cities chose it for their government too. If you wanted to vote you had to be a citizen in Greece however not everyone was a citizen. The men had all passed military training so they counted them as citizens. Greece did have officials to run the government, however most of the officials were pulled out of the lottery. Every citizen had a chance, it didn't matter if they were poor or rich.

Domocracy is a government formed by the people, of the people
    and for the people.

The Greeks had different governments because there was different city- states.
In addition all the ideas of the people about the government had changed over time.

    FORMS OF GOVERNMENT

There are some forms of governments that Aristotle divided the Greek governments are : Aristotle, Monarchies, Oligarchies, Tyrannies and Democracies. Most historians still believe on the divisions. All Greeks city states seem to have been monarchies witch were ruled by kings. After the dark age only a few Greek city states still had kings.

  4. During the Classical era of Ancient Greece many city-states had forms of government based on democracy, in which the free (non-slave), native (non-foreigner) adult male citizens of the city took a major and direct part in the management of the affairs of state, such as declaring war, voting supplies, dispatching diplomatic missions and ratifying treaties. These activities were often handled by a form of direct democracy, based on a popular assembly. Others, of judicial nature, were often handled by large juries, drawn from the citizen body.

By far the most significant and well-understood example is Athenian democracy in Athens. However, other important cities like Corinth, Megara, Syracuse and others also had democratic regimes during part of their history.

  5. Democracy means when people have a vote on something and then see how many people choose what.
Democracy in Ancient Greece was practiced in ancient city-state of Athens for 100 years. It was an experiment by seeing if the people liked something or not. Every year there was a draw. The 500 names were drawn from a pool of all the people of Ancient Athens. Those 500 people had to serve for one year. During that year, they were responsible for making new laws and for changing old laws.
This came to an end in Ancient Athens after Athens lost a war with Sparta. This was the Peloponnesian War. For a little while Athens was ruled by a small group of Spartans. Then they voted on rules and laws. It is one of their finest gifts!

  6. Democracy means when people vote on something for example when people elect on the president.
Ancient Greek was made out of many different states. Two main states were Athens and Sparta. In the spartan city-state boys and girls were trained to build a strong military. Athens was the capitol of Ancient Greece therefore was the most famous.Athens had the first democracy.

There were three types of government in Ancient Greece: an monarchy, democracy and a oligarchy. A monarchy was ruled by one person, a oligarchy was ruled by a few wealthy and powerful people, a democracy is when people voteon who they want to rule.

If citizens did not care for a politician, when they voted, they wrote on a clay tablet which person they wanted to leave Athens. If one person got more than 6000 votes against him , he could not have come back to Anthens for ten tears.

  7. Democracy means the rule of people. That is where each individual person has a vote on what to do.
In ancient Greece democracy was quite straight forward, what this means is that all the citizens voted on all the laws. Rather than vote for representatives, like we do, Each citizen was expected to vote for every law. They did have officials to run the government, however most officials were chosen by a lottery. So every citizen had a chance even if they were poor or had low popularity. A few key positions were voted on such as, treasurer and 10 generals who ran the army. In order to vote you had to be a citizen, only men who had finished their military training counted as citizens. Sometimes they changed government from being ruled by a king to democracy.

The Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced a system of political reforms that he called demokratia, or “rule by the people.” This system was comprised of three separate institutions:
    1) The ekklesia, a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy
    2) The boule, a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes
    3) The dikasteria, the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery-selected jurors

  12. democracy

A democracy is a regime where rule is determined by the people. Usually, the rule of the people involves voting either directly on propositions, or indirectly through representatives.

The original Greek word was derived from demos, meaning "the people," and kratein meaning "to rule." So it means '' ruled by the people'' or ''the people rule.''

The earliest form of government of ancient Greece was monarchy. In the pre-Classical period, ancient Greece was composed of small geographic units ruled by a local king

  14. Democracy means the power of the people which basically means a vote what people want to do.

The earliest democracy was in 510 BC in Athens. If you wanted to vote you had to be a citizen, at that time citizens were free men but women, children and slaves were not citizens so they could not participate in the vote. Everyone wasn't a citizen, each year 500 of the citizens names were written down. Those 500 citizens had to serve for one year, during that year of serving they were responsible for making new laws and changing old laws as they saw fit.
